Singaporeans 'not engaging' in political dialogue on Web

The virtual world may offer opportunities for open political discussion but most Singaporeans are not participating.

This is according to the preliminary findings of a yet-to-be-completed study, conducted by the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), on the behaviour of Singapore voters at last year's General Election.

Singaporeans are in a play safe mentality, they think I vote PAP because it has shown result and proven to us that they can manage the country.. never mind if price increases come... they all come part of the PAP Package

Nothing fantastic to talk about polictics... with a opposition that acts like a clown and a ruling party that will catch u if you talk to much.. u think people will want to talk about polictics openly?

Singaporeans cant be borthered who is ruling as well as my life not too hard can liao.. any way yes I do agree that the state of opposition seem sad... but WP has shown great progress.. they are the party to watch come next elections...

There are many people that said that the PAP themselves is fragmented too ... just a thought do u think they will break up and one half of them form the opposition?? possible?

Parhaps in the near future u will see the fragmented PAP .. imagine our MPs always do not perform to their fullest potential.. why? because they cannot say out their differing views because of the Party Whip... so a lot of pent up frustrations will build up until they fed up they will speak up and perhaps form a new political party.. it would be very very interesting to see the PAP break up from within for the opposition party formed after this fragmentation will surely have the support of the people especially if Goh Chock Tong is leading one of them!

I have always wished for a fragmented PAP or for an opposition party to offshoot from the breakings of the PAP, the people will have a stronger opposition to choose from

It is true that they do not engage in online web political discussions. One example is the YCIS discussion threads about the issues affecting us, so far response is very lukewarm on this matter.

As u can see the trend is with web... and youngsters are voicing out their views in blogs, forums as well as their own website articles. They participate in media initiated portals like Stomp. They like the freedom of speech the web offers to them. They are more willing to post their views knowing that the web is really a faceless space where a stranger can see their views but not their face

yes but i do believe the real debate is really lacking on the web. Do the other forummers agree?
