Do We Need Opposition?

I wonder why no one has mentioned this. I hear it in my cab rides most of the time.
Perhaps this topic is illegal. Admin, pardon me. Please check if this topic is legal. If not, please feel free to delete.

Does our Parliament need an Opposition? Does it need a voice?
We have two good representatives. But there doesn't seem that there is much difference.
Maybe we really DON'T need an Opposition after all.

Afterall, one party rule means efficiency and clarity. Right?

Put it this way.

If a small village only allows "marriage" within its community,

- shunning all outsiders as "polluting" their UNIQUE VALUES,

- villagers forbidden to marry "outsiders",

- villagers for fear of offending their Elders,

- fear to step out of the "Out-of-boundary" markers cast-in-stone eons ago by their Old & wise Men....

IT IS KNOWN AS IN-BREEDING, PERHAPS DEGENERATING INTO INCESTUOUS BREEDING....

And this Community will quickly die out as DIVERSITY IS LIFE...so said GAIA.

Some foreigners and some locals praised Singapore's meteoric rise
from 3rd World to 1st World. Even our oldest power-man openly
proclaimed so. Then what is the characteristics of a meteor? It means
it burns itself out through tremendous speed that causes internal friction
and heat, that in a short period of time will simply burn and evaporate
itself to emptiness. Think about it.
If you allowed others to decide your destiny, you are an exploited worker.
If you allowed others to take away your freedom, you are a slave.

Yes we need opposition ... if our opposition like Thailand ... lagi POWER lah!! THATS THE BEST!!

But we need ... any Govt no matter how clean they are will become complacent after having a few terms being in POWER... then they think they can just drive whatever policies they want through... The opposition must have kept the current PAP team who returned in power on their toes because of the much less desirable result obtained especially in PM's homeground against perpetual nobodies..... In a way the people benefit whether the opposition are returned to power or not... But of course our opposition must stop the fight amongst themselves and merge all to ONE BIG PARTY.... because if they really win more seats... THEY WILL BE THE ONE THROWING THE BIGGEST OPPOSITION ORGANISED PARTY EVER HELD IN SINGAPORE TO CELEBRATE THEIR VICTORY!! haha

It is "alternative views".

Not like our Ah Loong who put hsi foot in hsi mouth that "he can't even handle 3 or 4 opposition in PArliament."

Where got such thing in DEMOCARCY.
You meant Ah Loong never learnt rhetorics or the art of debating?

Too use to "because it is so, then it must be so" standard way of debating?

Good question! What has the opposition done for us?

Neutral Party.
Pardon me. May I modify your question?

What CAN the opposition do for us?

bluntly, the last real opposition to PAP is Jeyaretnam; previously, it is BArisan SOcialis.

Chaim See Tong and Low Thia Kiang are tokenism as a sop to global opinion that SIngapore "lacks democracy".

PAP cana crushed them anytime by putting a "heavyweight" like SM Goh or Lee Hsien Loong on a "one-to-one" fight with them.

Taht is, they are surviving ont eh sufferance of PAP when Lee Kuan Yew said "they are my kind of opposition"...a "kiss of death" to political opposition development in Singapore.

The question is:

What has Barisan Socialis and Jeyaretnam done for SIngapore Political Scene?

A country is just like a family. The family is the basic unit of the whole
society. In a family, there should be a father and a mother. Of course,
there are single parent family, but that is the exception rather than the
rule. Is it better to have a both parents family or a single parent family?
If you are the children of a single parent family for a long time, how
would you grow up to be? Will it affect you psychologically and emotionally?

Likewise, for a country it is better to have a two-parents (parties) than
to have a single parent government, isn't it?

Step #1 : Revert to 84 no. single seat ward and let Meritocracy works.

Step #2: Reduce "tender deposit" to S$500 per candidate so that SIngapaoreans like me are given an "equal opportunity" to sleep in PArliament at S$17,500 pm for 5-year Contract.

Step #3: PAP forsworned Litigaiton suits during the Election Campaign Period where benefit of reasonable doubts are given to opposition rhetorics with the exception of direct (mind you, not implied or inferred like say..a police report) personal and character assassination.

Step #4: Any litigation suits award should be limited to a handsome of S$17,500 pm...a month worth of MP allowances.

Step #5: NTUC members and any union members are allowed to support any Oposition parties. Not like in previous case of NTUC memebr supporting Opposition got to resign from their NTUC post. Am I correct?

Step #6: Opposition allows to hold outdoor activities.

Step #7: Opposition allows to setup their own Main Stream Media.

Step #8: Tertiary instiutions are allowed to setup Opposition aprties liek Young Socialist, Your Worker Party, Young Democract, Young PAP, Young Ankats, Young Poodles, etc..

Step #9: Forgive and forget. Presidential Pardon for Francis Seow, Tang Laing Hong, Tan Wah Piow and all those running dogs. Let those loud-mouthed PAP P65ers measured their "meritocratic talents" agaisnt these demagogues. Let Lee Hsein Loong brings his awesome intellectual to bear in debating agaisnt Tang Liang Hong in Mandarin; and Francis Seow in English. Let Vivian Balakrishnan goes head-to-head with Tan Wah Piow.

May BEST OF THE BESTs wins.....Thsi is Singpaore Meritocracy System isn't it?

And I just read "The Little Red Dot", various essays written by the
Foreign Service, compiled Tommy Koh, and therein in his
Introduction to the book, our famous nearly-lost Aljunied GRC,
Boy George was reminsing about his joining the Camelot
when he first joined the Ministry of Foreigners' Affairs.
